Melissa Hamilton is a certified tester with BJU Press as well as an Ohio certified teacher. She holds a BS in Elementary Education from Pensacola Christian College and a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of West Florida. She will be offering the Iowa Basic on May 23rd, 24th & 25th Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (3rd-8th) 8:30am - NOON and May 23rd and 24th Monday and Tuesday (9th-12th) 12:30pm - 4:00pm in Newark, Ohio. She will also be offering the CogAT (3rd-12th) from 8:30 - NOON and Algebra Readiness (7th and 8th) from 12:30pm - 2:00pm tests on Thursday May 26th.
3rd-8th grade: May 23, 24, 25 (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday)8:30-8:45 Arrival9:00-Noon Testing for all 3rd-8th gradersMonday Tests: Mathematics (2 parts); Computation (Math); ScienceTuesday Tests: Reading (2 parts); Vocabulary; Spelling; Social StudiesWednesday Tests: Written Expression; Capitalization; Punctuation; Word Analysis*; Listening******On Wednesday, 4th grade through 8th grade will be finished at 10:30. Third graders have 2 extra subtests (Word Analysis and Listening). Third graders will be finished at noon. The Iowa Basic Test is a nationally, normed standardized achievement test and meets the state of Ohio’s requirements. The subtests for 3rd- 8th grade include Mathematics (2 parts); Computation (Math); Science; Reading (2 parts); Vocabulary; Spelling; Social Studies;Written Expression; Capitalization; Punctuation; Word Analysis*; Listening* (*3rd grade only). The subtests for 9th-12 grade include Mathematics; Computation; Social Studies; Vocabulary; Reading; Written Expression; Science. The norm-referenced scores include a standard, equivalent, stanine, and percentile rank. The report will offer graphed achievement percentiles, content cluster skills evaluations, skills performance ratings, and a score interpretation brochure. A sample report is located under the ”results” tab when you are ordering your student’s test. The Iowa Basic needs to be ordered for the grade level your student currently is. Questions regarding which grade level to order can be directed to the staff of the BJU press testing service center. 3rd grade test: approximately 5 hours, 40 min. CogAT: May 26th (Thursday)8:30-8:45 Arrival9:00-12:00 Testing for all 3rd-12th graders The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) consists of three batteries that provide separate scores for the following reasoning/learning abilities: verbal, quantitative (numerical), and nonverbal. This is an ability test. It is recommended to be given every 2-3 years.This test is not an achievement test and can not be submitted to fulfill the requirements of Ohio regulations. Combining achievement tests and learning ability tests will help you develop reasonable expectations for your child’s progress, based on his or her abilities. Once you discern whether your child is reaching his or her academic potential, you can understand how to tailor your teaching to your child’s learning style. This test can not be ordered individually. It is only available in a COMBO pack with the Iowa Basic of your student's grade level.Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes Testing Time*This testing time does not include the time needed for administering, examples, or student breaks.

This test is best suited for 7th and 8th graders who have not had Algebra 1.
